It would be best to look into the data in your area, and see what the state of it, is. You may want to see if there are any mapping parties happening in your local area.

I currently use a Sony Ericsson k850i with a cheap bluetooth gps from Amazon. I use TrackMyJourney, which has the ability to export waypoints into a .osm file for loading into JOSM, and uploading.

I managed to get a cheap bluetooth gps from Amazon UK for 22 GBP, including postage. There is some slightly more expensive models that should be better.

You may want to look into gpsd.

Potlatch is really slow, especially when you are editing in a large window.

It isn't done due to lack of resources. It is also the fact that the tools are only now starting to be in a state to be able to do very recent updates.

I've found that OSM has had hotels that I was staying at on the map, but didn't actually search to see if they are there, until I had gone the long way around to get there.

You need to make separate ways, sharing nodes if they share the road, otherwise there is an undefined result as to whether the way will be tram or a road.

You may find that there is a problem with the renderer or the coastline.

I put the number of bikes that can be parked there, which is usually 2 per loop. Last night I seen bikes up on rails behind the bike racks, as the bike racks were full on platform 8 of London Bridge station.

I wouldn't go for a cheap point and shoot camera, as it won't be good enough for taking pictures of signs far away or on the move. I have a Panasonic DMC-TZ3 camera with a 10x optical zoom. I came across a couple of streets at the weekend that were unwayed segments before, and still hadn't been touched.

How accurate is Brisbane in OSM? Some evangelism, mapping parties, and publicity won't go amiss.
