Hi. Welcome to OpenStreetMap. Just to make you aware, we have guidelines for the road status in the UK. Basically if the road sign is green then it is a "trunk" road (not a primary).

As such please don't be surprised if someone reverts these edits.

Hi. Thanks for trying OpenStreetMap. It looks like somebody may have tried to help you by explaining that tags are added as value/key pairs. Unfortunately it seems like the explanation missed that these go together (as in value=key).

I have taken a few screenshots to show how to add giveway signs. By far the easiest way is to select the node, search for "Give Way" and pick the Yield option (US spelling).

If editing the tags directly, please see the All_tags.png for an example.

I have fixed this edit for you but please do feel free to continue with more edits :-)

OK - although not sure where on the wiki you read that.
Will look out to see if the highways agency have signed the carriageway ref (see: osm.wiki/Key:carriageway_ref )

I'd say that (given they are marked as exits) the slip roads are trunk_link highways. How come you feel these are still trunk highways?

My colleague at work is overly excited about the fact this is open now. He's "jumping around like a puppy that's seen some food and another puppy" (his words)!

You are right but this is a "mini-roundabout" (it has no signs or grass island). If travelling east on Gosford Street then drivers must turn north to Sky Blue way and cannot enter the mini-roundabout. For more see: osm.wiki/Tag:highway%3Dmini_roundabout

Welcome to OpenStreetMap. It looks like you may have had some difficulty making your first edit. The "iD" editor has a good tutorial so I recommend that you start with that. There is also the following guide:
http://learnosm.org/en/beginner/

Feel free to respond here if you need more help. Furthermore we have a local group at mappa-mercia.org should you be interested.

I've had a go at improving the mapping of this nursery. It wasn't easy - took me 2 attempts! Hopefully it looks right now?

Thanks for the HOT OSM edits and the addition of this church in Coventry. If you need help with anything feel free to contact the local OpenStreetMap community: http://www.mappa-mercia.org/

Hello and welcome to OpenStreetMap. It looks like you have had trouble with your first edit - for example we already have Victoria Square mapped as a pedestrian square rather than a park. Also the churchyard is already mapped.

I don't like to jump straight to a revert but I think it's the best thing given this is a densely built up area (edit now reverted) Don't worry almost everyone gets their first edit a bit wrong. Perhaps start in a less built up area - out of town. The local community can also offer help i you have any questions or would like an editing demo. See mappa-mercia.org

Hi Cameron and welcome to OpenStreetMap. Thanks for taking the time help improve the map. If you want some better aerial imagery to hep you then check out the following (which is on the website of our local group - feel free to contact us if you need any help):

http://www.mappa-mercia.org/2014/03/warwickshire-aerial-imagery.html

Best regards
Rob

p.s. I moved the rest of the details about the church off the point (node) to the building outline and deleted the node. This is best practice and stops the cross from appearing twice.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for getting back to me and welcome to OpenStreetMap. That's odd, potlatch is using quite good. Sometimes it's tricky to see everything in built up areas. I find that temporarily removing the background imagery (there's a drop down menu) helps to give a clear view.

JOSM is good but very complex. Potlatch or iD (not sure if this works with internet explorer yet) are good beginner map editors. If you want to learn JOSM then these instructions may help:
https://github.com/mapbox/mapping/wiki/Mapping%20with%20JOSM

Alternatively feel free to ask the community any questions. We have a local group in the West Midlands, with a website, mailing list, and monthly meetings (all ages). Find out all about us at:
osm.wiki/Mappa_Mercia

Hope it goes well for you,
Rob

Hi Umaladi,

Great to see you contributing to OpenStreetMap in Birmingham. Don't forget to check what is already mapped. This edit duplicated a few things in Swanshurst park so I have removed the duplicates. The improvement to Moseley Tennis club perimeter looks good - thanks.

Each mechanical edit should be assessed on a case by case basis for its merits. Preferably before the edit is made :-) The community should try to keep on topic and be realistic so as to not swamp the discussion and effectively kill it dead through exhaustion.

Mech edits aside, my real aim is to increase the number of active mappers in the UK. I don't think we have a clear enough view of how easy/hard it is to put people off editing by reverting changesets and/or jumping on their first edit (which may be wrong but is often constrained to a tiny area and usually fixed as the new contributor gets to grips with OSM).

Hi Andy, It was first raised on the 22nd November by Chillly. I can't force people to respond (hence the problem with the whole "approval" process) but I gave it a people a lot longer to respond that the original revert which was done without discussion based on a mechanical edit policy which I intend to challenge to get a clause added that at least 2 people should agree before a revert is committed on non-discussed mech edits.

35457641 over 9 years ago

I reverted the revert (35463688) as changeset 35691743. No conflicts detected.

35457641 over 9 years ago

Given that this gained unanimous approval on talk-gb (although only I commented on the merit of the change), I am going to see if it is possible to un-revert.

35457641 over 9 years ago

As per my email, I have no issue with the edit and feel that the fact that we are discussing this is (probably) more wasteful/harmful than this edit.

https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-gb/2015-November/018052.html

I appreciate that both of you meant well but I feel a pragmatic approach on a case by case basis is often better than a blanket application of some rule. This allows us to pick our battles wisely so that we don't pull the moral of the community down.

Hi ndm,
Thanks for resolving these one-ways. Please don't forget to mark any that you complete as "fixed" using the Traffic Flow Direction plugin so that others don't have to go over the same place. I've marked these fixed now :-)

Cheers,
Rob
