welcom to OSM,
Happy mapping.

Hi i'm newbie

Welcome to OSM,
if you have any questions, ask them (via this, via the forum or via PM)

Happy mapping.

mapping with new phone

Yes, OSMTracker is good, the only problem is that it doesn't save data immediatly. When your phone crashes, all data is lost.

Therefore, I always use a backup: I put OpenGpsTracker on while I use OSMTracker to add info and POIs.

Test succeeded :P

Welcome at OSM,
Happy mapping

If you still need to draw the streets, you must use a GPS which tracks your movement. If the streets are drawn, you can use walking papers.

Hoi

Het is een leuke hobby, soms wat verslaven, maar dat neem ik er graag bij.

Als je hulp wilt, dan moet je die maar vragen.

happy mapping.

video and my tracks

What program/plugin do you use to sync the gpx track and the video file?

Request for comments on my Wiki sidebar proposal

It's good. I wouldn't drop the shop link, it's good there, next to the donations.

my home

New Phone!

It seems navit can display tracks on offline vector maps. Didn't try that though.

New Phone!

osmand needs continiously internet connection. Open-gpstracker is a very good app, the data survived every hardwarecrash I had. That means: if I'm recording a gps track and the phone suddenly lock up due to RAM problems, all the data taken until then is saved. If such a thing happens with OSM-tracker, all data is lost, only the non-geotagged pictures remain. If you want to take notes, you'll better be of with OSM-tracker. Open-Gpstracker has problems with exporting all kinds of notes.

So my solution: use OSM-tracker to take notes and run Open-Gpstracker in the background to be sure you have the trace. A good thing android has multi tasking :p

BTW, if you like complete open software and data, both programs are free and if you want free navigation, try navit (search for the apk).

Protected area with natural=water shows up in green

oh, misread, it's weird the other area doesn't show up green. Can't find a mistake.

Protected area with natural=water shows up in green

This is a render error and seems to be known:

osm.wiki/Tag:leisure%3Dnature_reserve

You link doesn't show the green area though, here's the correct link:

osm.org/?lat=17.94313&lon=-62.81877&zoom=17

Do not edit the tags but contact someone of the rendering team.

Toevoeging Molenbeek - Wersbeek

Welkom bij OSM, happy mapping.

how to tag a speedway?

I don't remember if it was lit, but the serface was asfalt, do they sometimes use an other surface for speedways?

..

great text to read, I know that feeling, wanting to learn more about other mappers and I love reading personal stories.

Keep up the good work.

how to tag a speedway?

OK, that's only a stub, but I'll use that

Reliability of Open Street Map

>How long have you been using OSM?
I have been using OSM since I had my android phone a few months ago. On that platform, there are serveral apps that make use of OSM maps. When I tried those apps, I saw my street was only half mapped. So a few days later, I mapped the other half. That way I started editing OSM maps about 4 months ago.

>Approximately how often do you use and edit OSM?
Since that day, I use and edit OSM almost every day. If I have to be somewhere and I think this isn't yet in OSM, I fire up my tracking app and in the evening I take a look if those streets were already in OSM.

> What are your incentives for editing in OSM?
I want to provide an accurate map of the areas where I have to be a lot.

>What is your preferred method of attaining data to upload (e.g. GPS points, digitizing, uploading photographs)?
As said, I mostly use gpx tracks. When I ran out of GPX tracks, I try to correct easy "keep-right" errors (from the site keepright.ipax.at)

>Do you feel there is much disparity in the reliability of OSM data?
In my area, all OSM data is user-contributed, the Belgian government doesn't like sharing data. So there are no outdated sources and from time to time there is a contributer that tries to draw streets without data, those streets are quite fast corrected. So OSM data in my region is poor but reliable.

>If so, do you think this could be the result of the socio-economic dynamics of an area or the method of attaining data etc?
Explained in previous question.

Toulouse

Why spam? there's no link and I didn't know in my first OSM hors what the "diary" was, I thought it was something personal. It is possible Brian wants to save what locations he'll be working on.
