Listing business | If you don't want to bother, you can just say "Hey guys, here is a list of businesses with coordinates, I own all copyrights and I grant you all the rights. You can put them on the map if you want." Then probably, someone active in the area will look at the quality, and will import it. |

Offer of editing assistance | Bing images in Belgium are very recent (from last summer). And there is still the majority of buildings missing. The easiest buildings to map are those in the living areas like this: osm.org/?lat=50.8992&lon=3.02808&zoom=17&layers=M Real city centers are more difficult to map (as all houses are connected), and industrial buildings are also more difficult. So if you want to map, there's a lot of work to do. Get well soon. |

Do I really need separate login credentials for the wiki? | If you want to communicate, certainly subscribe to the mailing lists that seem interesting for you: osm.wiki/Mailing_lists But be aware that certain mailing lists (like the tagging one) can lead to heated discussions. |

Need help: which osm apps to recommend? | OsmAnd is very good (you do want the donation version or the nightly, not the free one in the market). Navit is a bit more geeky (with an XML config file), but a lot more configurable. Navit is purely offline, while OsmAnd combines offline and online features. Mapdroyd is nothing special if you compare it to the features of Navit and OsmAnd. But NavDroyd is also made by the same persons and is probably good (I did not try it since it's a version you have to pay for). These are all apps that work on Android and do local rendering. |

contourlines-shape-format | Or did you mean elevation contour lines? Those are not in OSM, but available via the NASA: osm.wiki/SRTM , but not in shape files. |
|
contourlines-shape-format | cloudmade offers shapefiles from OSM data: http://downloads.cloudmade.com/ They are updated not-so-frequently, but they are still recent. Is this good enough? |

Peugeot 3008 + samsung Galaxy Mini = WIN | If you want an OSM navigation app, try OsmAnd. The +-version also has offline navigation. It's open source, so you can get the +-version for free from google code, or you can buy the +-version on the market. You can also use it to upload POI directly to OSM, but it's not made for mapping. If you want to map, OsmTracker is the best app I know. |

Google Maps team AMA on reddit.com | A dev said they already support OSM with money. So I asked if they could also support OSM by donating their streetview images. I don't believe somebody will answer, but you might never know. |

kaartmateriaal | De luchtfoto's zijn nu echt perfect. Nu kunnen we zelfs gebouwen tekenen die er nog niet staan (aan de hand van de fundamenten). |

Very happy with OSM | Thanks for the nice comments. |

How to edit large ways? | They are nicely gone now, but there is also a bing relation. |
|
How to edit large ways? | And one of those roads has a shop=supermarket tag on it? I'm gonna delete it right away. |
|
How to edit large ways? | For this kind of things, you need to use more professional editors like Josm. |

Added the first entry | Like Andrew said, OSM has it's own tagging schema. But you can use OSM to locate all empty buildings. If you create your own tag, something like "empty_since=2010-01-19", than you can query it with osm. You can use the mapquest xapi (or any other api) to query for a specific tag (note that buildings are drawn as ways). Or you can even draw your own maps with that data (if you have a heavy server you can use). Do think about the tag before you continue. You don't want it to collide with other tags that are already in use. If you want to discuss the tagging, you can send a mail to the tagging mailing list (watch out, there are a lot of heavy discussions on that mailing list). And if you're happy with your tag, you can document it on the wiki. |

Zoom in satellite image | The original mapping was done without images. To map POI, you should go out on the street with a GPS. This is the most fun part in any way. |

Introduction | I don't know if you did, but you could get more success if you subscribe to the haiti mailing list and ask it there: http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ht |

first day | Welcome to OSM. Ease of use is right what the potlatch developers wanted to create. So you just gave a big complement to them. |
