My January 2021 in OSM
- Mapping
- Continued to keep mapping every day. I don’t have any more details. I can’t remember exactly. I either did buildings in Ireland with JOSM, or I went outside for a walk and used StreetComplete
- Tagging
- Suggested we come up with a tagging scheme for informed consent for trans HRT (but I need to do more than a tweet 😅)
- Missing Maps asked me to give a presentation one of their montly meetings for validators about the OSMF, what it did, and a little about “Diversity” in OSM(F)
- OSMF Board
- & HOT
- OSMF+HOT Boards The OSMF Board met with the HOT Board (online obviously), and we had a chat about what we could do together, and the recent trademark issues, like “hOSM”/“humanitarian OpenStreetMap” & a proper trademark grant for them
- I continued to work on a trademark grant with HOT to grant them a right to use the trademarked term “OpenStreetMap” in their name.
- I had a 1 hour call with a HOT Board member and we made a lot of progress using the existing Local Chapters Agreement Template to draft
- The draft was circulated to the OSMF’s clever OSMF Licensing Working Group (LWG) for advice. We’re going to ask outside legal counsel too
- Jan meeting
- ping OSMUK reminder
- Screen2Screen planning
- The OSMF wants to have a weekend long meeting (what used to be called a face-to-face meeting now must be a screen-to-screen).
- I (as Secretary) organised the dates, and getting Allen Gunn of Aspireation Tech to once again help facilitate.
- Local Chapters
- FOSSGIS, the local chapter for Germany, asked to change to new Local Chapter Agreement. I need to do some paperwork on that.
- OpenStreetMap Foundation Japan application
- Had to review background & documentation & remind the OSMF Board to review
- MapUganda application for Uganda
- This application has been going on for a bit. I contacted them to introduce myself and to summarize what I thought were the issues, to help them address that.
- Freemap Slovakia application for Slovakia
- Reviewed docs & emailed contacts to tell them probably OK
- Stowarzyszenia OpenStreetMap Polska application for Poland
- Contacted them to to tell them possible local consultion.
- FOSS Policy
- Inspired by a mailing list post, I filed ticket to move welcomemat to Gitlab. In true OSM do-ocracy fashion, the correct response was “Good idea, do you want to do it?” 😆
- OSMF Advisory Board
- The Board would like to talk to to the AB again, so I started organising that for a February meet & email AB & Board@
- & HOT
- Communication Working Group
- OSM Promotional Material Programme
- Posted a conference sticker page to Nigeria. They request just before the Coronavirus pandemic hit Germany, and DHL stopped posting things. Sorry for the delay!
- OSM Promotional Material Programme
- Social Media
- en.osm.town, the Mastodon/Fediverse instance I founded & run, was recommended by the OSMF’s FOSS Policy Committee
- Talked the State of the Map Organizing Committee about using a crossposter to get their birdsite account auto-posted to the Fediverse/Mastodon at @sotm@en.osm.town. I am hopeful.
- Likewise, the OSMF Communication Working Group (CWG) is looking at this for the OpenStreetMap birdsite account
- OSM Ireland
- OpenStreetMap Ireland would like to make something to help with the Map All the Buildings in Ireland project. We had a call to brainstorm. I won’t have time to contribute seriously.
