Hey there,

Be sure to square buildings where appropriate, by selecting an object and clicking the "Q" button or by right clicking on it and choosing to "Square" it. You can also choose to make a building circular using the "Circle" option.
You can find more keyboard shortcuts in the Help menu in the right sidebar.

Also, try to map the whole building, even if it is partially covered by plants.

Salut,

Hey there,

Once I set a place=* on a coastline, I can unfortunately no longer see the direction (in/out) in iD. It seems it does still matter afterwards, as I expected. I'll try to be careful with this, especially seeing I might add more place=* tags in the future.

Thank you for the correction!

Hey Frank,

https://www.wageningencampus.nl/nl/campus/community/Nieuws/show/Bouw-onderzoekscentrum-Upfield-gestart.htm

Hey there,

Be sure to square buildings where appropriate. Press Q or right click an object and select the Square option.

Also, try to make your changeset more descriptive, for example "added buildings", if possible.
You do not have to add "not in data" to your changeset. If you are adding something not yet on the map, you are always adding something which is "not in data".

Merry christmas in advance and have fun mapping!

Hey there,

Square objects by pressing the Q button or right clicking on an object and then clicking the Square option.

Also, look carefully at the imagery. It is not likely you will find a building directly behind another building, unless there is a street to access said building. There is only one building here. The line in the middle of this building on the imagery is a rooftop/edge (of a material; buildings may use metal plates as roofing) or line. You shouldn't map these unless you know what the feature represents.
(Once you become more familiar with the editor and such features, you can try simple 3D tagging:
osm.wiki/Simple_3D_buildings#Roof
Fyi, this is usually not meant to be mapped and will only show up on 3D renderers outside of the OSM site.)

Happy christmas in advance and have fun mapping!

Hey there,

Don't forget to square square buildings. You can square square buildings by selecting them and hitting the "Q" button in iD. Or, by (shift) right clicking on the object(s) and clicking "Square".
Note, you may need to manually adjust corners to be more square before you can square them (L-shaped and more complex buildings).

You can check the Help menu in the right sidebar in iD for more hotkeys.
Once you feel comfortable with iD, you can switch to a more advanced editor such as JOSM which will give you more options and help to avoid common problems like nodes sticking to ways you don't want them to stick to.

Hey there,

Try to draw the whole building, even if it's partially covered by vegetation or if the imagery is slightly unclear/not of a high enough resolution. If you're unsure if a building is 1 or more buildings, draw it as 1 building.
Also, feel free to check your contributions with other imagery layers. You can find them in the "Imagery" menu at the top of JOSM. See also:
https://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/Help/Menu/Imagery

I'll leave the buildings you mapped as-is. I'm personally more focused on landuse and error fixing.

Hey there,

Try to add a descriptive summary to your changesets. This helps other contributors understand what you want to do.
Something like "added landuse" is fine.

You can add a tag "source" and a source "local knowledge" to your changeset when saving it to OSM. You can also add a source "survey" if you have very recently surveyed (visited) the object.

Hey there,

What is the source you are using for the peak's name?
Be sure to read osm.org/copyright concerning the use of data from elsewhere.
(tldr; you can not use data from elsewhere without the right license)

94079581 almost 5 years ago

Hey Leo,

In iD, you can do so by
- selecting the object and hitting the Q button; or
- right clicking the object and then clicking the square icon.

PS: sorry for the additional message.
