In the past I made the mistake that I took pull requests of foreign language support I do not speak or am at least not good enough at.

Thus I now added more features using English language and I would like to have people translating this to French, Spanish and Russian accordingly.

Please contact me if you can help.

good morning!

Would you like a Brazilian Portuguese translation?

Could you get in touch with UmbraOsm - union of Brazilian Openstreetmap mappers

We are available to help with the translation from Brazilian Portuguese.

Hello! I can help you with the Ukrainian language.

I will take translations to any language which is in the say Top20 of languages spoken and I would of course also take translations of languages which are spoken in nations where camping is very popular (e.g. Dutch).

However based on the mistake I made in the past I will now only take pull-requests from people who want to maintain their language support in future versions of the code.

See this file on how adding a new language works. https://github.com/giggls/opencampsitemap/blob/master/README.l10n.md

Why don’t you want to use any translation platform? Localization in the current form will inevitably lead to outdated translations, because the appearance of new strings is inconvenient to track.

What is the advantage of using a translation platform? It would be easy to send a notification to language maintainers on commits so this is not a problem. The problem is that I do not have language maintainers!

  1. With a good translation platform, you can do this either with a single button, or the translators themselves will subscribe to notifications.
  2. Take a look, for example, at how EveryDoor is translated https://github.com/Zverik/every_door/pull/588 using Weblate. You make a commit, and then just wait for a pull Request to arrive with new translations. Or StreetComplete using Poeditor. Or Vecpucci using Transifex.
  3. I also didn’t see the file at all the first time README.l10n.md And I must say the instructions that are there are frightening. Most translators are not programmers. Few people want to dig into json / html..- learn and deal with GitHub.
  4. Yes, this will most likely require some effort from you as a developer, but you will get more translators in return

Which translation platform would you suggest to use then?

Awennit n Cyberjuan di 19 July 2023 ɣef 02:05

Spanish here! if you still need it.

Are You able to work with GitHub?

If so have a look at the instructions here. https://github.com/giggls/opencampsitemap/blob/master/README.l10n.md

I might move to a translation platform. Don’t hold your breath though.

If/when you move to a translation platform (or a way of translating easier than the current one), I’ll help you with French (if no one is quicker than me). I’m a great fan of OpenCampingMap.

I can use GitHub, I’ll enter the link.
