139173207 | almost 2 years ago | Hi, I'm curious what the rationale is for moving the business tags from the building ways to separate points? For Home Depot and Target at least, the entire structure is used by a single business. |
140148863 | almost 2 years ago | Happened to notice a typo in this changeset: sidewalk=booth instead of sidewalk=both :) |
131620231 | about 2 years ago | Hi, I noticed some instances where the landuse areas you drew overlapped roadways, seemingly just to connect to other landuse areas. When doing this kind of detailed mapping, I think it's best practice to not include adjacent roads, and limit the landuse areas to the actual footprint. It's discussed on the wiki here: osm.wiki/Land_use#Mapping_land_use_in_more_detail Happy mapping! |
129800335 | over 2 years ago | Hi, I appreciate your efforts at adding indigenous place names. However, in this changeset you have not included a source. I see this has been brought up before in other changesets, so I ask again can you please make it a practice to include your sources for every changeset? If this is important enough for you to put all this work into, I would think it's important enough to take the time to properly document sources to help users in the future. You have added names for many languages in many regions, so I assume these are not merely your personal knowledge. From the outside this looks like an effort at extracting names from online sources and putting them into OSM without any interaction with native speakers. I hope in the future you will consider making an effort to connect with indigenous communities so they can add their own names. If I am misunderstanding your project, though, I'd be happy to learn more. There is also an indigenous-mapping channel in the OSM US slack if you'd want to join the discussion there. Happy mapping! |
129912139 | over 2 years ago | Welcome to OSM and thanks for adding to the map! The tagging on this Speedway is a little funny so thought I'd let you know: 1) the canopy over the gas pumps is tagged building=roof, so there's no need to put that description in the name field, 2) the amenity=fuel tag is on the convenience store here, but should either be a node under the canopy or tagged on the canopy way, 3) the Speedway building isn't displaying on the map because it's not tagged as a building. Would also recommend replacing amenity=fuel with shop=convenience on the building outline. More info on fuel pump tagging is on the wiki: osm.wiki/Tag:amenity%3Dfuel (also convenience stores: osm.wiki/Tag:shop%3Dconvenience) Hope this helps you get used to some of the complexities of tagging. 128415260 | over 2 years ago | Welcome to OpenStreetMap, and thanks for making this update. Do you know if the parking areas have also been removed? Although the street is gone from OSM the parking is still there... Happy mapping! |
128377126 | over 2 years ago | Hi, I noticed the series of these edits you did in this area, thanks for looking at the overlaps. I wonder if in the future as you do similar fixes, you could consider keeping the essential geometry, rather than over-simplifying it as you fix the overlap. In many of these, the original geometry would've made it easy to add additional detail, like where the actual curb cut/tactile paving is, and which ways are sidewalk vs crossing. Thanks for your consideration! |
126567875 | almost 3 years ago | FYI, two of the relations you modified seem to have issues now: Town of Madison has two disconnected outer members (assuming those were meant to be removed?), and Fitchburg is not closed on the NE side, near the Beltline. Hoping you might be able to clean those up. Thanks and happy mapping! |
126828145 | almost 3 years ago | Welcome to OpenStreetMap and thanks for adding to the map! Wanted to let you know that community gardens are usually tagged landuse=allotments in OSM. OSM started in the UK so some of the tags sound a little unusual in the US! You can also consider adding other tags like operator or website. Happy mapping! |
119800612 | over 3 years ago | You may already be aware of this, but in the US, postal city (addr:city) is tied to the zip code of the post office that serves the address, which may be in a different city. Thus even though these addresses are outside the Minneapolis city limits, some of their addr:city values may not be wrong. (For example, I looked up Medtronic HQ's address on their website and they list Minneapolis) USPS has a lookup tool for reference: https://tools.usps.com/zip-code-lookup.htm In the Cities by Zip Code tool, there's often one "recommended" city but others are also recognized, so it's sometimes more helpful in finding out which cities NOT to use. Certainly, not a huge deal--I'm guessing USPS systems mostly look at the zip code--but the more you know... :) |
118992853 | over 3 years ago | Appreciate you going through those. Happy mapping! |
118992853 | over 3 years ago | Hi, I get what you're doing here, but you have harmed the data in some cases. For example, Blackhawk Country Club in Madison has named holes, and you removed the names. Please fix those and look more carefully at the data before doing mass edits! |
117745942 | over 3 years ago | Hi thanks for working on this! Can you please share your source(s) for these kind of edits, even if it's just wikipedia? Aside from general best practices, sometimes there are multiple names and it helps in sorting that out. Thanks again and happy mapping! |
117717048 | over 3 years ago | Welcome to OpenStreetMap and thanks for adding your business. One thing to fix: you have tagged your business office as a shop=supermarket, but the correct tag would instead be craft=plumber. If you could fix this, it'd look pretty good. Thanks and happy mapping! |
117032584 | over 3 years ago | Welcome to OpenStreetMap and thanks for mapping golf courses. However, please do put text in a hole's name tag unless it has a name other than the number (for example, Augusta National's hole #1 is also known as "Tea Olive"). If there is no name but a ref #, the hole will be displayed with the #. Happy mapping! |
116094090 | over 3 years ago | Welcome to OpenStreetMap! Something to think about for the future: instead of deleting the node, you could just delete the tags with store info, and leave the node with the addr:housenumber, addr:streetname, and level info. Then someone in the future would potentially be able to reuse the node when there is a new store there. Happy mapping! |
115025211 | over 3 years ago | Nice job adding detail to golf courses! One note about holes: the hole number will be rendered if it's in the ref value (in iD editor it says Hole Number). The name value should only be used if it has a name other than the number--for example Augusta National's hole #1 is "Tea Olive", or Whistling Strait's hole #1 is "Outward Bound." More info on the wiki if you're interested: osm.wiki/Tag:golf%3Dhole Happy mapping! |
114342610 | over 3 years ago | According to the wiki "a mini-roundabout is a special type of roundabout in which the middle can be traversed by vehicles". That is not the case here. In fact there's signage on roads leading to this intersection saying trucks should not go this way because it's so narrow. Regarding the building, I think old_name=Speedway would work, but it is not in signage or function a Speedway anymore so that having that as the name doesn't meet the on the ground rule. |
114342610 | over 3 years ago | The big thing is I'm not sure why you removed the roundabout around the fist? I went there yesterday and double-checked the roads don't go straight through and don't meet in the middle. Also not sure why you renamed the People's Way--it's not a Speedway anymore. |
114287583 | over 3 years ago | Sounds good, thanks for clarifying! |
