By the way, OSM Inspector says that "touching rings" is not necessarily an error...

43099747 over 8 years ago

Thanks!

It seems like OSM inspector still complained about "touching rings" after your edit. Maybe it would complain no matter what we do with this X-shaped geometry...

Hi Eric,

This change introduced an error in the Area B multipolygon:
.
http://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?view=areas&lon=35.20144&lat=32.41343&zoom=16&overlays=touching_rings,ways
.
As a result of this, Area B is longer shown on the Israel Hiking and Biking maps.
.
It looks like this is not the first time such a change is applied. The previous was in 2014:
.
https://overpass-api.de/achavi/?changeset=25905849&zoom=16&lat=32.41334&lon=35.20228&layers=B0TTTFT#map=16
.
Can you elaborate on the reasons for this change so we can discuss ways to implement your goals while avoiding multipolygon errors.
.
Thanks,
Zeev

The name of one castle was later changed to "Castello Di Wisam Shamroukh", however no such castles exist.

Dear sivan00,

What is the source of the changes done to the blue trail south of Manot:
.
http://strava.github.io/iD/#background=MAPNIK&map=16.88/35.19636/33.03618
.
The new version seems to be less accurate than the original, GPS-based version.
.
My experience is that aerial imagery is very rarely more accurate than GPS traces.
.
Updating a road based on aerial imagery and keeping the source=GPS tag is also misleading.

This multipolygon includes both Israel and Palestine, not just "Israel inside the green line"

43600000 over 8 years ago

Can you please check if there is any roundabout or one way traffic sign there.
Otherwise, it would be legal to drive around in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions

43600000 over 8 years ago

I've only added a roundabout tag.
The way direction and the oneway tag were set in changeset 8131512.
.
However, from the patterns of car movement as seen in the Rehovot GIS orthophoto - http://v3.gis-net.co.il/gisnet3/rechovot/?citycode=8400 - it looks like these are not necessarily one way roads.
.
The nearby way 112976543 has similar state and history.

As far as I understand, this is an exhibition of archeological findings.
I therefore suggest the tourism=museum tag without a building=yes tag.
.
I also wonder if it is worth mapping, as this exhibition is closed to the general public. In a way, it is not much different than a private art collection at some person's house.

Hello,

I'm not sure this qualifies as an archaeological_site because the archaeological exhibits shown in this garden were not originally from there.
.
Similarly, a museum is not tagged as an archaeological_site when it has archaeological exhibits.

Highway classification is about road importance - osm.wiki/Key:highway
.
Looking at the final proposal
http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=17256
in the discussion that led to the decision on the highway tagging, I see that It's the road sign color that was adopted as the criteria for the OSM classification.
It clearly states: "First rule for numbered roads: It doesn't count the amount of digits but the color of the sign!"
.
The presence of sign #216 or the specific speed limit signs is not a criteria in the approved proposal.

Hello WillRock41,

There was no response from you and you have been editing since my previous comment.

Unless there is a response in another week, I will assume you do not object to me reverting the highway classification of Hwy 5 and similar blue-signed highways to a "motorway" and the correction of the wiki page accordingly.

Best regards,
Zeev

Hi WillRock41,

It seems like there is a discrepancy about the inter-city highway classification on the Israel OSM wiki osm.wiki/WikiProject_Israel#Inter-city_Roads_-_Guidelines

On one hand it says "First rule for numbered roads: The category is determined by the color of the sign, not by the number of digits! " and on the other had it says that "All motorways have the following sign when entering [sign #216]".

Road 5 is an example where it is marked in blue yet the entrances may not have sign 216.

In my opinion only the color should determine the highway classification.

What do you think?

I think you have made several good points. Reading the wiki again, it is not so clear as I though.
Most important, IMO, is that you say trains are running on the tracks, which I was not aware of.
Thanks,
Zeev

Hello mapeditor999,

I believe the removal of the construction tags was premature.
According to the wiki

osm.wiki/Comparison_of_life_cycle_concepts#start_date_and_opening_date

the construction tag needs to be used until the opening of the railway to the public.

As you wrote, this has not happened yet.
Please let me know if you prefer to undo the edits yourself.Otherwise, I'll do that next week.

Thanks,
Zeev

Hello Yoni,

Welcome to the OSM contributors community, and congratulations on the edits you've done

I'd like to let you know that the OSM convention is to use a the locally used language in the "name" tags. In Israel it means Hebrew, and Arabic in some places.

In [this map](http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/ica) you can see some mixed-language names in your area. Please let me know if you prefer that I'll fix them.

I'll also be happy to help you in any way I can.

Thanks,
Zeev

Hello Aharon,

Thanks for updating the OSM map.

The OSM name tag is expected to be in the name used locally.

See osm.wiki/Names#Localization

Thanks,
Zeev
