GPS Trace questions: concatenation & waypoints

There is no filter yet. And I guess it's the task of the editors to filter traces by quality. Currently this isn't done yet but I think it will be needed in the future.

So in short: do what you want, it's not your task to guarantee quality of your tracs.

OSM tiles aren't rendered immediately. There has to be a change in that area before a tile gets re-rendered and they don't re-render if there's only a tag change but they do re-render every x days if someone looks at the tile.

And on top of that, the server can be slow from time to time. If you want a tile to be re-rendered, do the follwing:

right click on the spot you like to have re-rendered, select "view image" or somthing similar.

Then you have an URL like http://c.tile.openstreetmap.org/12/2125/1396.png in your address bar.

You can lookup the status (when it was rendered) by adding "/status" so you get http://c.tile.openstreetmap.org/12/2125/1396.png/status or you can mark it to be re-rendered by adding "/dirty" so you get the following: http://c.tile.openstreetmap.org/12/2125/1396.png/dirty

If you check the status again, you can see if it's re-rendered.

Hope this helps for the next time

Mapnik rendering of this one forest is light grey instead of green

sorry, re-rendering makes it grey. But I do would like to see the history. Does anyone have a solution to get the history without server timeout. I don't need all the versions and I don't need the nodes, I simply need the tags.

Maybe the forest isn't closed anymore, that would render it grey.

Mapnik rendering of this one forest is light grey instead of green

If you zoom in deep enough, you can see some tiles are rendered green, other are grey. I would like to see the history of the forest but it seems too large for the server (50+ versions and a lot of nodes). I get a server timeout.

Before you investigate further, try to re-render the tiles.

Non-public GPS traces

little server timeout I guess. If it happens agian, just completely reload your page (clear the cache).

Premier chargement de Traces

Merci,

Time wasted?

open up potlatch and compare the roads to the mean of all gps tracks (you can activate all gps-tracks with a little gps button below on the left). If your track is the only one, align it to your track.

Slow servers

Wel, the number of users is going up exponentially and the servers can't follow. When the number of (active) OSM users stabelises and sites start to take OSM images from other servers (like bing maps do), the speed will go up again I guess.

Fun while planning

I'ts clear, but I know another example in Belgium. Ever HEARD of FLANDERS LANGUAGE VALLEY?

osm.org/?lat=50.86984&lon=2.89185&zoom=15&layers=M

For the case you don't see it, its an ear.

How to change incorrect city name

note, if you just change the name, it won't be re-rendered in osm. This is not a big problem because OSM isn't about the rendering but is about the data.

You can resolve this by slightly moving the point and there's also a php trick to do it but I can't remember the command.

Areas

If you want to fill an empty space, you'll have to draw a way around the empty space (you can use existing nodes from the other ways) and afterwards you tag the way so it gets rendered in the majority of renderer's.

Don't just look at the rendering in mapnik, use valid tags you find on the wiki or make your own. Don't use tags because they give a nice colour in mapnik.

I'm new

hi back,
Welcome to osm

Low Node Ids

are you sure you haven't mist an '-' sign? New nodes have a negative ID until they're uploaded and visible to all.

Welkom op OSM. Doe gerust waar je zin in hebt en dan komt alles goed.

Routes France - Spain - Netherlands

I don't know how well the quality of the maps is in spain and France (north France is not so good I know) but if the quality is good, you can use a routing engine like cloudmate maps. The router is based on OSM data and it knows the difference between cycle paths and highways.

But I fear the data is not good in south Europe. The Netherlands and Germany are very good mapped and Belgium is following.

Welcome, happy mapping

River names not being displayed

I have seen mappers drawing a river bank with in the middle a singel street for the name. This is purely for rendering so it's not such a good idea.

OSM garmin

You can't leave the routing info out of the maps because it's not in the maps. What you can do is delete unneeded tags like maxspeed or so. I don't know if there exists software to delete certain tags from an XML file or if you will have to write it yourself.

Community Update From 09 June 2010 to 16 June 2010

Any possibility to have an rss feed on this?

Johannesburg

Is there something wrong with the rendering of the name "Johannesburg"? if you look at Johannesburg on zoom 9 or less, you can't see the name. If you look at Londen on zoom 9 or less, you can clearly see the name and all the villages around it.
