What I did in OpenStreetMap in October 2021

OSMF Board
- Advisory Board
  - Finalized the date for next meeting (Nov 2) & emailed all, incl. osmf-talk@
- new OSMF policy on safety of LGBTQ+ people at SotM
  - My current task of ensuring SotM only happens in places with minimum levels of LGBTQ+ safety.
  - Replied to HOT’s reply
  - Community Consultation emailed osmf-talk@, the LWG, LCCWG, talk@. Posted on slack (& again in #general), RainbOSM telegram group, OSM Africa group, OSM LatAm group, emailed diversity-talk@. Posted on Twitter, Mastodon/Fediverse, posted on the LGBTQ in Tech slack
- October 2021 mid month chat
  - Someone asked if minors (people under 18) can be OSMF members. As the inofficial legal correspondance, I contacted our pro-bono lawyer to ask about UK company law. No reply yet.
- Microgrants
  - I read the final report of the outgoing Microgrants committee.
  - Started asking the community by emailing lists talk@ & osmf-talk@, and posting on slack, and Telegram
- 2021 OSMF AGM
  - Contacted a few people to ask them to run for the board
  - Wed, Oct 20, 2021 Fwded email to Adv Board to tell them about the election
  - After talking with a few people, I decided to restand for OSMF Board. wiki self-nominatim, tweet, mastodon/fediverse
- While travelling home via Paris, I met fellow board member Jean-Marc Liotier in Paris! We grabbed a coffee for the few hours I had. Fediverse/mastodon post, tweet with photographic proof!
- Got board approval to sign the OSMF Non-Disclosure Agreement with the Special Committee on Takeover Protection. After that passed, signed & sent. Also forwarded to them the latest legal advice we had received.
- As part of becoming a Local Chapter, OpenStreetMap Japan had to transfer their trademark to the OSMF. That’s due to happen now, and I attended a LWG meeting about this. There was some confusion about whether this was happening. The OSMF is waiting on a Japanese agent.
Mapping
- A new mapping project is the replacement of sidewalk=none with sidewalk=no. I did some clean ups around Karlsruhe (e.g.)
- I have started to remove the gay tag from places that have lgbtq tag. e.g.. Look at the chronology of the gay tag
- I noticed that some StreetComplete tasks are too hard to do. Namely asking to count hundreds of bicycle parking spaces. 🐘 🐦
Communication
- Submitted post to weekly OSM about crypto voters
- In Nov. 2020 I gave a talk as part of OpenStreetMap Ireland’s Mapvember about building mapping. It was uploaded in Jan 2021 (youtube video here), and was in WeeklyOSM № 586 -
- I’ve ordered some german language attribution fixer stickers
Finally replied to an email from someone who wants mentoring to do gender neutral tagging proposal
Hacking
- I tried to make a little script to try ST_ApproximateMedialAxis to turn river areas into lines. Results not so good. 🐘 🐦.
