Die meisten Nutzer, die mit dem Lizenzwechsel einverstanden sind, klicken auf "Accept" und mappen weiter. Wie viele Leute diskutieren dort denn überhaupt noch über das Thema? Immer denselben Argumenten von immer denselben Lizenzwechsel-Gegnern im Forum zu widersprechen, macht doch wirklich keinen Spaß.

Ab und zu lasse ich mich noch dazu hinreißen, dort etwas zu sagen - gerade, wenn jemand besonders haltlose Behauptungen aufstellt oder Grund zur Annahme besteht, dass er etwas einfach nur falsch verstanden hat. Aber spätestens, wenn dasselbe dann zwei Seiten später wieder gepostet wird, ärgere ich mich nur noch über die damit verbundene Zeitverschwendung.

Traditionell verbreitet ist cycleway=opposite - obwohl es sich, anders als bei anderen cycleway-Werten (einschließlich opposite_lane und opposite_track), nicht um einen Radweg/Radspur handelt.

oneway:bicycle=no ist eigentlich logischer, aber war halt zu spät dran und ist daher eher selten.

Ja, man kann sämtliche GPS-Tracks aus einem Bereich herunterladen. Bei JOSM geht das z.B. im gleichen Dialog, in dem man auch den zu bearbeitenden Kartenbereich auswählt. Dort gibt's ein Häkchen für das Herunterladen der GPS-Daten.

Yes, the feature seems to be present at most MediaWiki installations, so I think that MediaWiki (or some extension) creates a search plugin and sets the proper header by default.

wiki.openstreetmap.org already offers a search plugin on-site. It can be added to Firefox by clicking on the search box icon (while wiki.openstreetmap.org is open in the current tab), then scrolling down in the drop down menu and clicking on the plug-in's entry.

Ich kann verstehen, dass dir die Art der Lizenzeinführung nicht gefällt - mir in mancher Hinsicht auch nicht, obwohl die Reaktionen auf diese "Diktatoren"-Geschichte in meinen Augen etwas übertrieben ausfallen. Das hat wohl viel mit dem persönlichen Empfinden zu tun, und vielleicht auch damit, wie man die anlassgebenden ausufernden Diskussionen auf der Mailingliste erlebt hat.

Deine Einordnung der Lizenz selbst kann ich aber objektiv nicht nachvollziehen. Die ODbL ist keineswegs nicht-frei. Sie ist im Gegenteil sogar deutlich näher an einer Open-Source-Lizenz für Geodaten als die CC-by-SA, denn bisher kann man ja Produkte auf OSM-Basis veröffentlichen und die verbesserten Sourcen (Geodaten) für sich behalten!
Auch die Übertragung der Nutzungsrechte sehe ich nicht als Zeichen für Unfreiheit, denn die Nutzungsvereinbarung erlaubt ausschließlich freie und offene Lizenzen und fordert eine massive Zustimmung der Mapper für einen erneuten Lizenzwechsel. Das ist einfach eine pragmatische Antwort auf die Tatsache, dass die ODbL noch zu neu ist, um sich ihr ohne Rückversicherung auszuliefern.

From a technical point of view, the existing OSM database is probably not useful for storing building, as models are very different from the current data format. However, the OSM *project* could likely use the building models, and it would also make sense to create links between the OSM database and the building models to allow for seamless integration.

Ideally, we would set up a separate database/server dedicated to storing building models under a free license (maybe CC-BY-SA, with the option to grant a more liberal license - similar to Wikimedia image licensing choices). That database should provide the possibility to retrieve building models based on a coordinate range and should store references to objects in the OSM database with an appropriate addressing mechanism. Building such a database certainly appears to be a manageable task - someone would just have to do it...

Actually, I'm very interested in the availability of 3D models myself because I'm currently creating a converter that transforms OSM map data into 3D scenes, and models for individual buildings would make a great addition to that. However, it will likely take me a few more months to get to the stage where all the core OSM features work well enough for me to consider the next step, i.e. integrating building models.

According to the original idea/proposal for path, there is no difference between a "highway=footway" and a "highway=path + foot=designated".

Path was defined to describe a more general category of highways: everything not intended for motor vehicles with four or more wheels, which covers all ways "below" highway=service and highway=track. According to this interpretation, footway, cycleway and bridleway are special cases of paths.

If none of the three more specific categories adequately describes the path, using highway=path is an obvious choice. Maybe the most common example for a path that doesn't fall into either of the footway/cycleway/bridleway categories are "bush tracks", but this doesn't mean that highway=path is synonymous with those. You therefore cannot reliably read any information about width, surface etc. from the highway=path tag itself.

In many situations, though, a path *can* be described by one of the more specific categories. Some choose to use highway=path plus additional tags (such as foot=designated) nevertheless, as a matter of personal preference. Back during the proposal vote, however, most mappers preferred to keep the established and convenient single-tag solutions for those common situations.

JOSM funktioniert definitiv auch unter Java 1.6 - es wird in einiger Zeit wahrscheinlich sogar nur noch unter Java 1.6 funktionieren.

Interessant ist vielleicht, ob das ein Original-SUN-Java war. Andere Varianten (die von Linux-Distributionen gerne mal installiert werden) machen oft Probleme.

Zur Auswahl der Java-Version: Vielleicht klappt diese Lösung aus dem Ubuntuusers-Wiki auch auf openSUSE?

If you don't need to fully automate it, you could use JOSM's search function. Searching for
amenity=bicycle_parking -capacity
would select what you want - you could then copy the selection, paste it into a new layer and save to .osm (or convert the layer to .gpx, depending on where you want to use it).

We are creating a database of information that can be used (and is being used) for making maps, but also for routing engines, 3D visualizations, street name lists, etc.. Nobody knows all applications that have been or will be developed using OSM. Therefore, if someone wants to put effort into adding some information to the map, it's best to assume that they have a good reason to do so.

Let's cite the wiki main page here:

The project was started because most maps you think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive, or unexpected ways."

I'm quite sure that discouraging people from adding data if it is not immediately necessary for our current applications will not help to bring along creative and unexpected uses of geographic data.

Wo genau fehlt denn eine deutsche Übersetzung? Im Projekt gibt es so viele Programme und Texte, da ist schon eine konkretere Angabe nötig.

openstreetmap.org selber ist jedenfalls deutsch (bei entsprechenden Browsereinstellungen) und die wichtigsten Seiten im Wiki haben ebenfalls Übersetzungen. Mit dem Editor JOSM (osm.wiki/DE:JOSM) gibt es auch eine Möglichkeit, die Karten in einem komplett ins Deutsche übersetzten Programm zu bearbeiten.

Wie Nightdive schon ausgeführt hat: Außer für Garmin haben wir keine Karten für kommerzielle Navis, und auch die Möglichkeit zur Erstellung von Garmin-Karten haben wir nicht etwa der Großzügigkeit des Herstellers zu verdanken.

Natürlich wäre es überhaupt kein Problem, die Daten auf kommerzielle Navis zu bringen, wenn deren Hersteller kooperieren würden. Beschwerden also bitte an deren Adresse. Leider ist denen ihre Geldquelle in Form teurer Karten (und -updates) wahrscheinlich wichtiger als ein paar unzufriedene Kunden.

Das Plugin hat bei mir noch nie richtig funktioniert, habs allerdings auch nicht besonders intensiv versucht. Mal auf einer Mailingliste oder im Forum nachfragen, würde ich empfehlen.
