Street naming in Germany: Hammer Straße ./. Hammerstraße
Поставио корисник U_R_S у 3 Јун 2008 на English.A typical problem in Germany: is there a " " in the street name?
I found this "Hammer Straße", which is "Hammerstraße" in OSM.
Both are valid words, but with different meaning.
Hammer Straße is a name in favour of the city "Hamm", Hammerstraße is a name in favour of the tool hammer. Even Google or Viamichelin mix this up, but the street signs show "Hammer Straße".

"but the street signs show 'Hammer Straße'." - that's what you should use in OSM (or update if someone entered it wrong).

Exactly - the advantage of OSM is that you can fix it when it's wrong ;-)

I have come across the same problems in the UK, but the street signs say something different from what the businesses on the road and the local council seem to use!

Thanks, eumiro and TomH. Yes, I edited it already. Should be available after the next rendering.

I think the proper OSM guidelines is to use the street signs. Map what's on the ground.

Well, not sure that'll work all the time. The street I'm living in exists in at least 4 different official(!) writings. There are 2 different street signs and two additional versions in official town documentation. The street signs contain a Dr. and a Doktor and all words are seperated by dashes. Well, town documentation has the same street in two additional versions. One without the dot after the Dr. and one without the dashes.
So, how will we handle such cases? I fear there are more examples like mine ... :-(
